The first Event of the year had a lot of controversy...and it hadn't even begun yet. Word got out that Jace Parker Davidson had suddenly quit Peach State Wrestling without given notice and Tara Michaels has been removed from the roster for reasons unknown. It was then announced that the Four Way Dance for the Number One Contendership to the Peach State Championship...would now be for the title itself!
Brute Svenson, Whirlwind, Griffin Hawkins and Finn Cambridge all fought like lions, determined to capture the title. In the end it was all down to Hawkins and Svenson fighting it out. Both have given it their all and in the end, Griffin Hawkins somehow managed to pull his strength together and connect with a Swanton Bomb he calls The Holy Diver on Svenson for the 1...2...3. Griffin Hawkins is your new PSW Champion. We went in the hallway after the match to get words from the new Champion.
"It's..amazing" He said holding the belt over his shoulder. "I didn't think that on this night that I would be fighting for the Championship. But I went out there and fought the best Peach State has to offer..especially Brute Svenson. He's probably the toughest son of a bitch I've ever faced in my career and he nearly took me out, but I stood tall and I won this belt here.."
Nobody really expected Griffin Hawkins of all people to be Champion..especially on this night. When Jaxson Hunter brought up the subject, he had this to say.
"There are a lot of people..who thought that I didn't belong. People like Jace Parker Davidson and many others buried me since day one, saying I'd never get this far...and I almost believed them. But as of tonight I proved them and all the doubters wrong when I fought tooth and nail with the baddest dudes in Peach State. If anything I proved that I do belong in Peach State."
Even though Griffin was smiling, a tear came down his face as he got a little emotional.
"This is all so...overwhelming for me. I have dreamed of this night all my life...when I watched wrestling on TV with my brother and sister when I was a kid...I kept telling myself that will be me one day..and here I am. So I just want to thank everyone who never stopped believing in me no matter how bad things got..and I can honestly say...that this is the greatest night of my life."
Griffin Hawkins seems to be elated, but his dreams might be cut short soon. At Breakaway he will participate in the first ever Irish Battle Royal. There's a possibility that he may lose his title in this match.
"I've been in many battle royals in my career..but never an Irish Battle Royal. But I want to be a fighting Champion and go in this, facing anyone and everyone who want a crack at this belt. I knew if I'd win this belt, I'd be a target. I knew that People would be coming at me everywhere. But I am prepared to fight. And if I go down..I go down swinging. 2012 will be the year of The Rock Soldier!"
