Hi, Mom!
Hey, don't get on me. It's Mother's Day, and I'm going to say hi to my mother. Not that she actually reads this stuff, but it's the principle of the thing. Today is the day to show that appreciation for mothers.
Now, there weren't a whole lot of mothers last night at Dixieland. I do think the term mother was used a few times by various people, both inside and outside the ring, but there was usually a much more interesting word following it, so I don't think that counts.
It was an awesome night of action in the Peach State Arena, also known as Warehouse #2. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, which was great, seeing the air conditioning in the building was out. I didn't notice it too much, as there was a nice breeze coming through the warehouse. Now, I did feel sorry for the guys in the ring. They already have a core body temperature of something like 120, and the no air didn't help matters.
The night started off with Jody coming out and introducing Mr. Batee, president of the NWA and the owner of the BACW. Batee has a very long history in this business. He's seen his share of controversy, but he came here for one thing and one thing only, to give out two tickets to Wrestlebowl being held in Las Vegas on May 31st. Unfortunately, I can't win the tickets, something I attempted to argue with him about, but I lost the argument, and was told to shut up by Jody, so that's exactly what I did.
The first match was a great way to start the show, as we saw Dixie Leigh take on newcomer Jared James. True to Dixie's word, she brought cookies for everyone, and might I say, they were actually pretty good. Jared brought nothing but a bad attitude, which seems to work for him.
Dixie already has a good fanbase here in Fayetteville, and I would put her right behind Kidd Kaboom as far as popularity. The cheers were loud as Gretchen Wilson's "Here for the Party" played and Dixie Leigh came to the ring. Even though the crowd didn't know who he was, he just oozed arrogance. Not to mention if they followed him on Twitter, they would know his contempt for coming to Georgia. Then again, I can't imagine many people following him on Twitter.
He obviously looked down upon Dixie Leigh, and truthfully, he seemed to look down upon the entire Peach State Wrestling, which is why, it was really funny that when the match started and Jared started trash talking Dixie in the ring, she kicked him in the head with a step up enziguri and then went for a pinfall, nearly getting a really quick victory. Jared did kick out though, and immediately rolled to the outside of the ring, not wanting Dixie to keep her momentum. It was a veteran move, because most people would have lost their temper and walked right into another series of moves by their opponent, but Jared decided to take a breath, and keep Dixie away from him. But someone forgot to tell Dixie she was supposed to stay way from him, as she took off running, dropping down for a baseball slide, but Jared saw it coming and spun out of the way, as Dixie's feet caught nothing, and she slid out of the ring. Jared drove a toe kick into Dixie's gut, then took her head, turning around, and slamming her head first into the ring post. Dixie stumbled away from the corner, as Jared followed her.
Jared grabbed her head again, and slid her back into the ring. Jared climbed to the apron, and springboarded back into the ring, coming down on top of Dixie with a leg drop. He cockily covered her, but only got a one count, as Dixie kicked out. Jared hammered Dixie with a few right hands, before getting back to his feet, lifting her leg up, and driving a boot into it. He does a version of a figure four leglock he calls the Cedar River Leglock that he was obviously thinking about, because he began to work on Dixie's leg. Then again, with Dixie being a highflyer like him, it could have also been the best to keep he grounded. He put another boot to her leg, before spinning around it, and dropping his leg across hers. Dixie held her knee, rolling away from Jared, but Jared was right there, bending down, and picking her up. She hopped on that leg for a moment, not wanting to put weight on it, and Jared seemed to enjoy that. He kicks her in the leg again, and she fell backwards into the corner. Jared sends her to the other side with an Irish Whip and then followed her in, but she was ready for him, lifting her feet up and catching him with them as he came in. Jared stumbles away from the corner, allowing for Dixie to hop up to the second rope. Jared turns around, as Dixie leapt off the ropes, driving a missile dropkick into his chest.
Jared went down. Dixie got back to her feet, still favoring the leg a little, but not as much as she did previously. She ran to the ropes, coming back, leaping into the air, and flipping, coming down back first onto Jared's chest. Dixie rolled over, going for a pinfall, but Jared kicked out. Dixie got back to her feet, lifting Jared up. She pushed him into the corner, driving several kicks into his midsection, before leaping up, and going for a monkey flip out of the corner. Dixie lands on her back, flipping Jared into the air, but Jared some how manages to land on his feet. Dixie got back to her feet, right into a headlock take down by Jared.
Dixie reversed it with a leg scissors, but Jared powers out of it, grabbing both of Dixie's legs in the process. He drops backwards, and sling shots her into the corner, head first. She stumbled backwards, as Jared got to his feet. He grabbed her from behind, and went for a German suplex, but as he did, she flipped over behind him, dropping to the ground, and rolls him up with a school boy.
The crowd jumped to their feet, but Matt only counted two and three quarters. Both of them get back to their feet quickly, Jared letting his temper get the better of him. He rushed toward her, but she sidestepped him, and took him down with a drop toe hold. She quickly got back to her feet, before running toward the ropes, as Jared got up, still fuming. Dixie leapt into the air, going for a cross body block, but Jared ducked underneath it. Dixie hit nothing but mat, and rolled underneath the ropes, landing on the floor outside. Jared looked at Dixie, struggling to move on the outside, and then had a smile on his face. He began to climb the top rope. The crowd was on their feet booing and trying to get Dixie back up. Matt warned Jared up on the top rope, but there wasn't much he could do other than threaten to disqualify him. He had to the five count and he knew that, and by the time Matt reached it, he wouldn't be on the top rope anymore.
Dixie struggled to get up. First to her knees, then to one leg. Finally getting up, her back toward Jared. She turned around, as he jumped off the top...and then she caught him in mid-air with a dropkick. It was a pure desperation move. Jared's neck snapped back, and he landed hard on the floor. Dixie landed on the floor hard as well. Neither of them moved, and Matt had no choice but to begin his ten count. It was like something you see on television. Both began to stir, but it was Dixie who grabbed the bottom rope and hoisted herself back into the ring at the seven mark. Jared grabbed ahold of the bottom rope, but his hand slipped off, as he fell backwards, losing out on his last moment to climb back into the ring. The crowd cheered as the bell rang. Both competitors were exhausted, but Dixie Leigh ended the match as the winner, even if it was by count-out. I have a feeling, as much trash talk as these two have been spewing back and forth, these two will meet again.
As we get to the next match, everyone who has a television know about the tornados that hit Alabama and Georgia. Thanks to all the people who came and donated clothes, canned food, money, and a ton of other stuff at Dixieland this weekend. I drove through parts of Spalding County where two people lost their lives, and all I can say is it looks like a bomb went off, however, with all the devastation, I'm amazed that only two people lost their lives. It's some kind of miracle that there were very few injuries. I heard one story about an eleven year old girl being sucked out of her damaged trailer, thrown 500 feet, and wound up with only a minor leg injury. It's stories like that that will give you goosebumps.
(OOC Note: The F3 tornado that destroyed parts of Spalding County passed about a mile north of my house. We were very lucky to say the least. We received no damage whatsoever from the storms. Truth be told, if we weren't up watching the news, we probably would have very easily slept through the whole thing. If you want a close-up look at the devastation, I took many photos of it. Here is the link: http://s1121.photobucket.com/albums/l512/nobody137/Griffin%20Tornado%202011/)
The action continued in our next match that pitted Kimba Seanoa against newcomer, "The People's Choice" August Joyce. Kimba Seanoa was, at one time, considered one of the top stars in Peach State's first two shows. I honestly believed it was just a matter of time before he captured the Peach State Championship. August was the new guy, but there's something about him that both I and the fans liked. He was cocky, but not arrogant, if that makes sense. Think Han Solo-ish, which now that I think of it, wish I had made that comment on "May the 4th Be With You" Day, but alas, hindsight is 20/20. He had a big smile on his face, and while he didn't do anything to endear himself to the fans, he didn't do anything to go against the fans either. He just did his thing. And he must have impressed Dixie too, because they've been schmoozing each other over on Twitter for weeks. Hell, he even got a batch of her cookies all to himself. Lucky bastard, because they were good.
The match started off with Kimba showing his strength in the lock-up, throwing August back into the turnbuckle. August shook it off, and the two went to lock up again, but August knew he wasn't a match for Kimba's strength, so he ducked underneath him, and grabbed him around his midsection, lifting him up and taking him down with a waistlock takedown. August immediately rolls off of Kimba, letting him take the time to get back to his feet. Kimba shook it off, and went after August, not bothering with trying to lock-up again. August backed up, letting Kimba make the first move, and Kimba tried to grab ahold of August again, but August ducked, coming up behind Kimba again, this time kicking him in the butt, shoving him forward. The juvenile move drew a little laugh from most of the crowd, despite the fact that Kimba has been a strong fan favorite in this arena since his debut.
Kimba turned from the corner, obviously angry, and rushed August. August was surprised at Kimba's speed. It caught him off guard, and Kimba caught him with his shoulder, lifting him up, and carrying several feet, before slamming him backwards into the corner. Kimba didn't hesitate, as he took his arm, and sent him flying to the otherside. August hit the corner hard, and Kimba came barrelling in for a shoulder block, but August rolled out of the corner, and Kimba went shoulder first into the steel ring post. The clang sent people wincing.
August looked at Kimba, before pulling him out of the corner, grabbing him around the body, and then sending him face first with a Reverse Russian Leg Sweep. August rolled him over and covered. He got a two count out of it, as Kimba just barely got his shoulder up. August got up, grabbing ahold of Kimba, lifting him to his feet. he grabbed his head, pushing it down, before lifting the nearly 300lbs Samoan up onto his shoulders with a Canadian backbreaker, before flipping him forward, and down with a piledriver. The crowd went silent for a second, as August flipped Kimba over, but shook his head. He got back to his feet, letting the crowd know they were in for a treat. He lifted Kimba up again, grabbing ahold of his arm, twisting it backwards, before lifting him up, spinning him to the side, before slamming him down hard into the mat. It was a move he calls the Qing Ri, and I'm glad all I had to do was type it, because I would have no idea how to pronounce it. I've never personally seen anyone do a move like it.
The match was over as soon as August covered Kimba. He picked up a huge victory, beating...no...dominating one of the top stars in Peach State. And despite the fact that Kimba was over with the crowd, it didn't take away from his victory, as the crowd was impressed with what they saw. That's when it happened. Mr. Batee's music hit and out came the big man himself. He got on a mic, and August wasn't quite sure what he was there for. Batee didn't give a big speech. Truth be told, he only said one word.
"Impressive."
And then he handed an envelope to August and left. August looked inside the envelope and flashed that cocky smile. He was the one that impressed the President of the NWA and won the tickets to Wrestlebowl. It was a moment of joy that didn't last long. Kimba was slowly making his way to the exit, but as soon as he stepped through the curtain, he fell back through it, crashing to the floor. John Empires, the guy that Jody just hired to be one of the head trainers for Peach State, stepped through the entrance holding a chair, that now had a Kimba shaped dent in it. August stared at him from the ring, as John doesn't even look in his direction. He raised the chair again and brings it down again and again on Kimba. August finally had enough, and climbed out of the ring, heading toward Empires.
Empires lifted the chair up again, but August grabbed ahold of it. Empires, without hesitation, brought his leg straight back, catching August in the groin, causing him to immediately double over in pain, and take a step back. Empires turned, a smile on his face, before raising the chair up. He looks at the chair and then back at August, before shaking his head. He drops the chair, and grabs ahold of August's head, driving a hard kick into his groin as well. August fell backwards to the floor, as Empires smiles, telling him have fun in Vegas.
I don't have a clue what the hell Empires was doing here. I know he was brought in as both a trainer and a wrestler, but I didn't expect him to make this type of impact. He took out Kimba Seanoa, and there's no telling how long he will be out for, and he straight up embarrassed August Joyce in his moment in the spotlight. Empires may have just bitten off more than he can chew with this one, but we'll just have to see.
At intermission, the crowd found out that the next show will be June Jam on Saturday, June 4, 2011, and it will crown our first Peach State Tag Team Champions, in what might be the most unusual tag team divisions of all time. All tag team matches will be under Lethal Lottery rules, so the possibilities could be endless. The recently signed NWA Tag Team Champions, Ascended Supremacy, could very well be paired together...or they could wind up on opposite teams. August Joyce and John Empires could wind up on the same team...or Kidd Kaboom and Trenton Williams. It should be a huge night of action, so get your tickets now.
As everyone returned to their seats, we were treated to the single best match in Peach State's short history. I know I said that about their last match, but this one blew that one out of the water. These two athletes showed why they are at the top of the ladder in Peach State Wrestling.
Kidd Kaboom came out, having the crowd fully behind him, while Trenton Williams came out the complete opposite. Despite their obvious differences, these two share so many qualities with each other. Almost identical in size. They share some similar moves. And they have been the only two Peach State Champions, PSW has seen. Their differences are vast as well. Trenton is a long time veteran, while Kidd Kaboom is a product of PSW's Wrestling School. Kaboom is fairly local, coming out of Anniston, Alabama, while Trenton is a born and bread Yankee out of New York City. (And yes, everytime I say that, I imagine the crowd like they were in one of the old Pace salsa commercials)
The two men stood opposite each other, as Trenton relinquished his championship to Matt Reynolds, but he made it clear to Kaboom that he would be taking it home. Kaboom just shook his head and told him he didn't think so. Matt held it up for the crowd to buzz about. There was some flash photography, and I'm sure someone got that iconic image of the two rivals with the title between them. Matt handed the belt to Natalie, and then called for the match to begin.
Kaboom took the first step toward Trenton, as Trenton said some things to Kaboom that weren't audible. Kaboom jawed right back with him, and finally Trenton threw the first blow, a hard right hand across Kaboom's head. Kaboom fired right back, and the match began with the two of them trading jabs with each other. It was Kaboom who caught the advantage, blocking one of Trenton's blows, and firing two quick shots, but it was short lived as Trenton raked his fingers across Kaboom's eyes, before driving a knee into his midsection, doubling him over. He grabbed both of his arms, before lifting him up and over with a butterfly suplex. Kaboom slammed into the mat hard, and Trenton waisted no time, covering him. Matt barely had a chance to even drop down for the count before Kaboom kicked out. Both men got back to their feet at the same time, with Trenton going for the offensive, but Kaboom stepped out of the way, grabbing ahold of Trenton's arm, and flipping him backwards with a Japanese arm drag. Kaboom kip-ups, much to the crowd's pleasure, as Trenton gets right back to his feet. Kaboom turns, driving a side kick into Trenton's gut, doubling him over. Kaboom rushed backwards into the ropes, coming back, flipping over the doubled over Trenton, and catching his legs, flipping him over with a sunset flip.
He got a one count before Trenton brought his legs together, forcing Kaboom backwards. Trenton rolled back to his feet, as Kaboom got back to his. Trenton rushed him, driving a hard running kick into his head as he got up. Kaboom dropped back to the ground, rolling to the ring apron. Trenton grabbed ahold of the top rope, driving a well placed kick into Kaboom's side, sending him off the edge of the apron. Rather than going out, Trenton steps backwards, making Kaboom do all the work, and allowing him to get a breather. Matt starts the count, and gets to the five, before Kaboom is back on his feet. Kaboom grabs ahold of the ropes, pulling himself up on the apron. Trenton held his hands up, showing he's allowing him to get back in, but as soon as Kaboom drops his guard to climb back into the ring, Trenton rushed him, driving a kick into his belly. Kaboom fell through the ropes back into the ring. Trenton picked him up to his feet, delivering a huge knife edge chop across his chest, pushing him against the ropes, before sending him to the otherside. Kaboom rebounds off the ropes, right into a spinning sideslam by Trenton. Trenton covers, this time getting a strong two count, as Kaboom just barely kicked out of the power move.
Trenton got back to his feet, lifting Kaboom up, pushing him into the ropes again, sending him to the other side again. Trenton turns, dropping down for a back body drop, but Kaboom stops short of him, and hits him with a toe kick. Trenton is forced up, and Kaboom grabbed his arm, pulling him toward him, catching him with a short arms clothesline. Trenton went down, and Kaboom covered, but just barely got a two out of it as Trenton kicked out. Kaboom got back to his feet, before leaping up into the air, coming down with a huge leg drop across Trenton's chest. Kaboom covers again, and almost picked up the wind, as Trenton got a shoulder up at the last moment. Kaboom got back to his feet, picking Trenton up, but Trenton grabbed ahold of him, rolling him into a small package with a handful of tights. Despite the underhanded tactics, Kaboom somehow managed to kick out of the move.
Both men got back to their feet and went in opposite directions into the ropes. Trenton came back with a clothesline, which Kaboom ducked. Both men went into the ropes again, this time Kaboom tried to come back with a clothesline, but Trenton ducked it. They went into the ropes for a third time, this time both going for a clothesline, and both succeeding. They crashed into the mat hard.
The crowd begins to rise to their feet, cheering, trying to will Kidd Kaboom back to his feet. Both of them start to move as the crowd is at a fever pitch. Trenton is too his feet first, but Kaboom is right after him. Trenton drives a right hand across Kaboom's face. Kaboom drops down to one knee, but gets up firing back with a big uppercut. Trenton stumbles backwards, but comes back with a right hook. Kaboom nearly topples over, falling back into the ropes. Kaboom uses the ropes for leverage to push himself forward, going for another right hand, but walked right into a toe kick by Trenton that stops him cold. Kaboom dropped down to one knee, and Trenton grabbed his head, driving a knee into it. Kaboom almost falls backwards, but Trenton held on, picking him up rapidly, wrapping his arms around his body, and lifting him up and over with an over the head belly to belly suplex. Kaboom was thrown halfway across the ring, crashing to the mat hard. Trenton crawls over and covered, but was shocked that Kaboom got a shoulder up with Matt's hand just inches off the mat for the three count. Trenton stared at Matt, saying something to him, but Matt showed him the two count.
Trenton got back to his feet, waving his hands. He lifted Kaboom up, who looks like he could barely stand without Trenton's support. Trenton grabbed Kaboom, lifting him up on his shoulders. He planned to end it right there, going for the Career Ender. He sets the torture rack, stretching Kaboom across his shoulders, when suddenly Kaboom drives one of his knees straight into Trenton's head. Trenton wobbles for a moment, and then Kaboom drops down in front of him, immediately going for the BadaBOOM. He grabs Trenton's head, but Trenton had enough sense to push off of him, forcing the failure.
Kaboom rushed Trenton, but Trenton lifts up his leg, pushing it forward, nearly taking Kaboom's head off with a mafia kick. Kaboom crumbled to the ground. Trenton immediately lifted Kaboom back to his feet, before grabbing him by his side, and lifting him up. He turns him, before dropping him down with a side backbreaker...then another one...and finally bringing him straight down with a final sidewalk slam...a combo he calls Highway to Hell. He went for the pin. I thought it was over. The crowd thought it was over. Trenton thought it was over, but nobody told Kaboom that, because he got a foot on the rope. Trenton couldn't believe it. He was very agitated with Matt at this point, yelling at him for him to do his damn job.
Trenton shook his head, still not believing that the match was still going, and bent down to lift Kaboom back-up, but Kaboom had other plans, grabbing ahold of Trenton, bringing him down with a small package. Matt dropped to the mat and counted. One, two, three. Trenton kicked out, but it was too late. Matt called for the bell. The crowd went wild. We had another new champion. Kidd Kaboom had did what he promised. He came in here and beat Trenton to regain his championship. The crowd couldn't believe it, and were on their feet screaming in excitement. Kaboom rolled to the corner, trying to regain his breath, while Trenton stared, sitting on his knees, not believing what just happened.
Matt grabbed the Peach State Championship and started to walk it over to Kaboom, but suddenly Trenton got up and snatched it from his hands. Matt yelled at him to give it back, but Trenton refused, pushing Matt backwards. Kaboom got to his feet, just as Trenton turned and cracked the belt across Kaboom's head. Kaboom fell backwards hard, laid out on the mat. Trenton stared at the belt, before throwing it down on top of Kaboom, and finally leaving the ring.
Kidd Kaboom may have won the championship back, but this war is just getting started. Trenton, despite his attitude, had a great match, and he came up on the short end of the stick, simple as that. There was no reason for him to attack Kaboom like that at the end of the match. It was a dirty tactic, something I know Trenton doesn't have a problem with, but it wasn't necessary. I know this won't be the last time these two meet, but they both need to concentrate on June Jam, because they'll both have the opportunity to win the tag team gold. And think about it. What if they wind up as partners. It will be very interesting indeed.
That's it for my recap of No Excuses. Don't forget to come out to our next show, June Jam, where we crown the first Peach State Tag Team Champions!
